Jahangir Tareen net worth in 2026

Published estimates put Jahangir Khan Tareen’s net worth at around $550 million, based mainly on his holdings in JDW Sugar Mills, which is listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange, and his other farming and food businesses. The figure is far higher than the assets politicians declare in their official statements, which record holdings at book or historical values rather than market value. Treat it as an estimate.

Early life and education

Jahangir Khan Tareen was born on 4 July 1953 in Comilla, then in East Pakistan and now in Bangladesh. He graduated from Forman Christian College in Lahore in 1971 and earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina in 1974.

Building JDW

Tareen founded JDW Sugar Mills, which grew into the JDW Group, one of the biggest sugar producers in the country, with mills in southern Punjab and Sindh. The group also produces ethanol, generates power from sugarcane waste, and runs aircraft services.

He also chairs the JK Group, whose businesses include sugar, dairy, fruit farming, granite mining and the PepsiCo bottling franchise in Multan. The group is linked to the Multan Sultans cricket franchise.

He is also known for large-scale corporate farming in southern Punjab.

Political career

Tareen was elected to the National Assembly in 2002 and served as Federal Minister for Industries and Production from 2004 to 2007. In 2011 he joined Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and served as its secretary general from 2013 to 2017, becoming one of the party’s main organisers and financiers.

In December 2017 the Supreme Court disqualified him from holding public office under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution, over his financial declarations. He later broke with Imran Khan, launched the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party in June 2023, and resigned from it in February 2024 after the general election, withdrawing from politics.

How the A1 Rich List estimates net worth

We use Forbes’ real-time figure where Forbes tracks a person. For everyone else we use the most widely cited published estimate, from sources such as Wikipedia’s list of Pakistanis by net worth, the Sunday Times Rich List and Pakistani business publications, and we name the source on each profile. Where reports give a range, we rank on the midpoint. Private companies are hard to value, so treat every estimate as a guide rather than an exact figure.
