Malik Riaz net worth in 2026

Published estimates put Malik Riaz’s net worth between about $1.1 billion and $2.5 billion, and we rank him on the midpoint, $1.8 billion. Any figure is uncertain. Bahria Town is privately owned, its accounts are not public, much of its land is the subject of court cases, and the National Accountability Bureau froze Bahria Town properties and land in 2026.

Early life

Malik Riaz Hussain was born on 8 February 1954 in Sialkot. His father ran a contracting business that failed, and Riaz left formal education after matriculation. He worked his way up through small construction contracts in the Rawalpindi area during the 1970s and 1980s.

Building Bahria Town

Bahria Town takes its name from an early partnership with the Pakistan Navy’s Bahria Foundation, which later ended. The company developed planned communities with wide roads, private security, schools, hospitals and its own utilities, a model that appealed to buyers frustrated with unplanned city growth.

Its main projects are:

  • Bahria Town Rawalpindi and Islamabad: the original and largest of its communities, in several phases
  • Bahria Town Lahore: home to the Grand Jamia Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world
  • Bahria Town Karachi: a very large development on the city’s outskirts along the M-9 motorway

For buyers, the legal status of land matters as much as the location. Our guide on how to check a housing society in Islamabad explains what to verify before paying.

Legal cases

In 2019 the Supreme Court of Pakistan accepted a Bahria Town offer of Rs460 billion, payable in instalments, to settle the case over its Karachi land.

In December 2019 he agreed a civil settlement with the UK National Crime Agency, handing over about £190 million in cash and a London property. The NCA said the settlement did not represent a finding of guilt. How that money was handled in Pakistan became the basis of the Al-Qadir Trust case, in which former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife were convicted in January 2025.

On 1 May 2026, an accountability court in Karachi declared Malik Riaz, his son Ahmed Ali Riaz and other accused proclaimed offenders in a reference over about 17,000 acres of land for Bahria Town Karachi, and ordered their arrest. The National Accountability Bureau said it had sought Interpol red notices and later froze Bahria Town properties and land. He is reported to be living outside Pakistan and has publicly rejected the accusations against him. The cases are ongoing.

Philanthropy

Bahria Town runs Bahria Dastarkhwan, which serves free meals in several cities, along with hospitals and schools. Supporters point to this work and to the jobs his projects created. Critics argue that charity does not settle questions about how land was acquired.

Family

He is married to Beena Riaz, and they have one son and four daughters. His son, Ahmed Ali Riaz, has served as Bahria Town’s chief executive.
