Sualeh Asif net worth in 2026

Forbes added Sualeh Asif to its billionaires list in 2026 and estimates his net worth at $2.7 billion. Most of it is held in SpaceX shares he received when SpaceX completed its all-stock acquisition of Anysphere, the company behind Cursor. Forbes estimated that each of Cursor’s four co-founders received roughly $2.4 billion in SpaceX stock when the deal closed, and the value has moved with SpaceX’s own valuation since.

Because SpaceX is privately held, the figure is an estimate. It could change sharply if SpaceX’s valuation rises or falls, or if it lists on the stock market.

From Karachi to MIT

Asif grew up in Karachi and showed a talent for mathematics early. He represented Pakistan at the International Mathematical Olympiad from 2016 to 2018, one of the most demanding competitions for school students in the world.

He went on to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. While there he worked on an AI-powered search project and met the classmates who would become his co-founders.

Building Cursor

In 2022 Asif and three MIT classmates, Michael Truell, Arvid Lunnemark and Aman Sanger, founded Anysphere. Its product, Cursor, is a code editor with AI built into every step: it can write functions, explain unfamiliar code, fix errors and make changes across a whole project from a plain-English instruction.

Cursor spread quickly among professional developers. Engineers at companies including Nvidia, Adobe, Uber and Shopify adopted it, and by the time of the acquisition it was reported to be earning more than $1 billion in annualised revenue, one of the fastest climbs of any software company.

The $60 billion SpaceX deal

SpaceX agreed to buy Anysphere in an all-stock deal valued at $60 billion and completed the acquisition in August 2026, folding Cursor into its AI unit. It was one of the largest acquisitions of a young start-up ever. For Asif, it turned a stake in a fast-growing private company into a stake in one of the most valuable private companies in the world.

Why his story matters for Pakistan

Most names on any list of the richest Pakistanis made their money in textiles, cement, banking or property, usually over decades. Asif made his in about four years, from software, before turning 30. His path, from olympiad mathematics in Karachi to a top university abroad and then to building a product used worldwide, shows a route that does not depend on land, licences or inherited capital.

It also shows why maths and computer science education matters. Pakistan’s olympiad teams are small and often underfunded, yet they produced one of the country’s few self-made billionaires.

What comes next

Asif is young enough that his biggest decisions are probably ahead of him: whether he stays with SpaceX’s AI work, starts another company, invests in new founders or supports education back home. Whatever he chooses, his net worth will now track SpaceX’s valuation closely.
